Sisterhood In Print Festival: March 8th - 12th

It’s all kicking off in April when London’s favourite adult learning institute, the City Lit , will be taking up residence at the NINES to bring us an entire week of taster sessions taught by leading artists and practitioners. Their take-over aims to showcase the rich creative talent to emerge from City Lit as well as bring a taste of what they do to the creative heart of South London. So stop wondering 'what if?' and join us this April to try your hand at a variety of brilliant sample classes. Have a crack at screen printing, street photography and jewellery making or simply come along to enjoy a drink, see some art, and celebrate what happens if you engage your creative potential.

Café Au Lait is a radio show that has been going for over 2 years on both Radar Radio and Balamii Radio. The show covers the sounds of Detroit and Chicago House, Afrobeat, World music and Jazz, highlighting both old and new music from across the spectrum. Through a series of leading paneled talks and excellent live sessions, the Café Au Lait takeover will be bringing us a fat slice of London’s underground music scene. With artists such as Tenderlonious and Skinny Pelembe playing intimate live sets, and talks from organisations such as Dimensions, Balamii, Worldwide FM, we’ll be getting a taste of how hot it really is in the underground. Talk topics include “The Importance of Online Radio”, “Raving In The Current Climate”, “The Necessity of Sound Systems”. And expect the week to be tied off with a big party from the best selectors that London and Manchester have to offer.

The Change Collective is a growing community of socially engaged, creative humans, coming together in an ambitious experiment to see if they can instigate and support meaningful, long-term social change. They are a group of highly experienced arts practitioners all connected through a belief that the arts can be transformative. They work in often chaotic and challenging environments, ranging from prisons to refugee camps with clients including British Council, The Barbican, The UN and many more, exploring ways of using the arts and creative processes to bring people together in a meaningful, conscious and thought-provoking way. For their special one-day takeover they’ll be running an afternoon / evening session to articulate questions about Peckham’s changing community, and then explore those questions through a variety of creative approaches. P art workshop, part ritual and part party; expect food, music, drinks but also a flip chart and post’its. The event will be a space to shine a light on the fast paced changes in Peckham in an accessible and creative way. Local venues, organisations and key community members will be getting involved so please do come and join the conversation!

Change Collective: June 4th

United by their interest in ‘the body in space’ and a thirst for extended collaboration, visual artist Anni Katrin Elmer and dance artist Irène Wernli will be turning the NINES into a playground and performance gallery to explore the meeting points of their practises. Inspired by patterns of rhythm and in response to Copeland Park’s environment and existing communities, they’ll be building up to a Performance Installation, creating danced sound-loops, mapped video projections and music-inspired drawings. With a focus on the interplay of Music, Movement and New Visual Media, their takeover will host an open jam session, lecture and a participatory live music and drawing event, examining rhythm within the arts more widely. Featuring pop-up performances, the final exhibition will be open to the public for several hours, allowing visitors to roam freely within the altered space. Confirmed collaborators include Central St Martins visual arts collective NYHA, Dr Daniel Rubinstein and artists Lynda Beckett, Tyrone Isaac-Stewart and Adam Skinner.
