#9sTakeover - City Lit - Can Bad Art Be Good, Talk & Workshop

  • The NINES 133 Copeland Road London, England, SE15 3SN United Kingdom (map)

This unique course by artist Luke Gottelier explores the creative possibilities of using irrationality, imposing limitations and chasing the thing you resist. Following a talk by the artist, you will be invited to participate in a workshop and develop quick art works exploring: What style is what? How do we develop a sense of personal style? Ideas vs. impulse? We will also examine some of the heroes of “bad art” and consider the significance of absurdity or irrationality as a tool for developing art.

£5 via Eventbrite -

To quote Chuck Close: an artist’s style is just what they happen to be doing the day they get discovered.

Take over at The NINES
Our take-over aims to showcase the rich creative talent to emerge from City Lit as well as bring a taste of what we do to the creative heart of South London. So stop wondering 'what if?' and join us this April to try your hand at a variety of taster sessions. Sessions include screen printing, street photography and jewellery making, or simply come along to The Nines, enjoy a drink, see some art, and celebrate what happens if you engage your creative potential.
Our takeover coincides with What If? - a major exhibition of works at Copeland Gallery next to The NINES by emerging talent on the Foundation Diploma.

Our venue for the takeover is The NINES, a playful bar, kitchen and venue in the Copeland Park complex, in the heart of Peckham's emerging creative quarter. As an integral part of this culturally rich scene, they are dedicated to curating an events programme of music, arts and parties that reflect the spirit of our local community.
